A new connector path between two popular Rock Hill walking, running and biking trails is now open along the Catawba River.
City leaders on Tuesday announced the newly-finished section of trail connecting Cherry Road near Interstate 77 to River Park, located near Red River Road. Trail users may start the 3.35-mile trip from Riverwalk or River Park. The path does not loop.
Also Tuesday, Rock Hill officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the city’s first criterium course, which was announced earlier this year as a future addition to the Rock Hill Outdoor Center. A criterium course is a paved loop track for cyclists.
Rock Hill plans to host criterium competitions once construction is complete. The track will also be open to cyclists of all skill levels.
The trail and criterium course are part of Rock Hill’s newest outdoor recreation area, which includes a cycling velodrome, mountain bike trails, and an Olympic-caliber BMX Supercross track.
