Economic Impact Of Active Environments

Union, SC (Mar. 15, 2017) – Eat Smart Move More South Carolina‘s (ESMMSC’s) Hannah Jones Walters presented on the economic impact of creating environments that promote active lifestyles at the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association Spring 2017 Conference at Main Street Junction in Union, South Carolina. Over 100 planners, managers, planning commissioners, zoning board members, politicians, engineers, architects, landscape architects, and allied professionals attended. Mrs. Walters encouraged the use of ESMMSC’s report on the economic impact of walkable and bikeable communities in South Carolina as a tool to illustrate local examples of projects where developing active community facilities have resulted in financial benefits. Representatives from the City of Spartanburg and City of Pickens presented case studies from completed projects in their towns.
